Non-biology majors module on transposable elements
During the summer 2009 and 2010 this module was one of the lab experiments completed by students taking BIOL1103, Introductory Biology for Non-Majors. The students read an article from Scientific American and then completed an experiemnt where they amplifed three regions of human chromosomes that contain Alu elements using DNA extracted from their cheek cells. Peggy Brickman, Biology Educator and Professor, developed this experiment after taking our Summer 2008 course.
The Module was presented at the American Biology Laboratory Educators (ABLE) 2010 conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The module was selected for publication in the 2010 Proceeding.
